In Looking at the Sky I am concerned mostly with the act of seeing. What does it feel like to experience the atmosphere of a scene? We learn to selectively identify and classify what we see, but here I wanted to see if I could gently subvert that tendency. I used my infrared camera and software to abstract landscape photographs until the experience of viewing became more feeling rather than thinking.

The exhibition includes two looping single-channel videos, Metaphysical Supplements and The Altogether Now. With the videos I worked in two distinct modes. In Metaphysical Supplements I wanted to see how a machine might translate the same images from the show, using generative software to autonomously create an alternative visual translation, In The Altogether Now, I shot on location with aerial video to and reconfigured the images manually.
